[Openspace] GeoDa crashes when loading shapefile

I am new to Geoda and seem to be having a simple problem loading in data.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

 

I have a shapefile of zip codes that has undergone some "pre-processing" in
ArcView 8.2, a dissolve, in order to ensure that there is only one zip code
polygon per zip code identifier.  In the original shapefile there were some
problems with multiple (contiguous) polygons per zip code.

 

I start up GeoDa and select "Open Project".  I select the filename of my
shapefile, click OK, and the program shuts down without displaying any error
message.

 

Has anyone had/solved this problem?
