Welcome to Visiting Professor Donna Peuquet

01/19/2009

The GeoDa Center welcomes Donna J. Peuquet, Professor of Geography, Penn State University, visiting at ASU for her spring 2009 sabbatical.

Her research falls into the broad category of GIScience with specific interests in geographic knowledge representation and space-time data models in a computerized environment. Her approach to this problem is both theoretical and methodological. Theoretically her research does not simply rely on cartographic traditions of geospatial representation. Instead, her approach is more comprehensive by incorporating philosophical foundations of space and time from a variety of disciplines.

Methodologically, she has implemented and tested new approaches to geospatial and spatio-temporal data. One example is STNexus: An Integrated Database and Visualization Environment for Space-Time Information Exploitation.

Much of her work in spatio-temporal representation is in her book, Representations of Space and Time published by Guilford in 2002. The content of the book is diverse, encompassing topics that include cognitive aspects of space, software development, and human-computer interaction.

Pauquet plans on building upon these research interests by exploring conceptual and methodological approaches to space-time analysis. Research will be conduced in collaboration with researchers in the GeoDa Center.
